Design Brief & Solution
This sleek yet characterful kitchen is part of the transformation and extension of an old, run down barn into a stunning family home in Wetherby, North Yorkshire.
The client brief was for the kitchen to remain in keeping with the barn but on a contemporary scale. Oak had to be incorporated into a minimal design look that would be perfect for entertaining.
Underpinning the design is a beautiful expanse of polished concrete flooring which provides the perfect backdrop for the rich, two-tone Organic Glass Light Grey and Midnight Blue Lacquer cabinetry from Pronorm. The handleless kitchen furniture creates a minimal aesthetic, ideal for a contemporary open-plan interior, while the beautiful colour palette and pale Scandinavian style wood accents bring a welcoming and lively energy.
Soft grey tall units along the back wall house no less than three ovens and provide ample storage for kitchen essentials. They are enveloped in a stunning border of blue to create an interesting design feature and brings a sense of depth and balance to the large and bright interior.
A generous kitchen island of just over 4m long provides plenty of space for food preparation, with every appliance and ingredient at the client’s fingertips. An L-shaped breakfast bar in Oak End Grain and matching barstools span its perimeter to makes the perfect location for family brunches or dining with friends, while spectacular droplet pendant lights set the mood.
In contrast to the organic wood surface, a Corian worktop in Designer White covers the working areas of the kitchen for a practical and modern surface that accommodates the sleek, moulded sink design, which is in keeping with the pared-back style.
Not a single detail has been overlooked in this spectacular kitchen design which perfectly balances style and functionality.
