Home Story

A renovated home where the kitchen brings calm and everyday life together

A house with history calls for decisions made with feeling. It is about preserving what is already there, adding something new with care and giving the rooms a calm, harmonious effect. Jette van Hal renovated her home with exactly this approach: warm in its atmosphere, clear in its design and open to everyday life. At the centre is a pronorm kitchen that blends naturally into the living space and shows its strength precisely through this quiet presence.

Open-plan living, clearly planned

In open-plan layouts, a kitchen has to do more than look good. It is part of the room, connects the individual living areas and creates a calm transition. At the same time, it accompanies everyday life from the first coffee to dinner with guests. This makes kitchen planning all the more important: it should not only allow for order, but consider it from the very beginning.

That is exactly what makes this kitchen feel so balanced. Clear zones provide orientation, short distances make workflows easier and generous storage keeps surfaces calm. When something is well planned, it often feels completely natural in everyday life. And that is where its quality lies.

A living kitchen with clear workflows

Many decisions in this design are not spectacular at first glance. The waste separation system is integrated into the pull-out and positioned exactly where it is within easy reach during preparation. The two ovens are placed in the tall unit at an ergonomic working height, while the wine cooler integrated into the kitchen island supports the transition to the living area without bringing unrest into the design. It is solutions like these that turn a kitchen into a place that truly supports everyday life. Distances become shorter, workflows clearer, surfaces freer. This creates not only order, but also ease.

Calm in appearance, precise in detail

The Y-line kitchen with the Y-MP front in Angora grey ultra matt brings restrained clarity into the room. The matt surface and handleless fronts support the calm effect of the kitchen and blend harmoniously into the living environment. The colour choice also helps the kitchen to be present without pushing itself to the fore. Especially in open-plan living, this restraint is an essential part of good design.

The island is also more than a functional centrepiece. It extends the work surface, creates a flowing transition to the living area with the bar and makes the kitchen the communicative centre of the room. Integrated sockets on the side solve practical requirements. The ceramic worktop adds a calm material quality to the design, while the niche with wall shelves and lighting gives the kitchen additional display space and warmth.

Jette’s view of solutions that matter

Some solutions prove their worth not only in the first moment, but every day. In this kitchen, this is shown in the clear planning, the ergonomic arrangement of functions and storage solutions that noticeably make everyday life easier. The Y-MP front in Angora grey ultra matt also underlines this calm, precise attitude in its design.

The kitchen feels calm because so many details have been precisely resolved. It remains homely because the functions stay in the background. And it is durable because it does not rely on effect, but on balance. For Jette, it is exactly these carefully considered details that make the kitchen so pleasant in everyday life and give it a personal quality beyond its function.

More than a functional room

On her Instagram account, Jette van Hal shares insights into a home designed with a strong sense of materials, light and atmosphere. The pronorm kitchen fits naturally into this world. It is clearly planned, designed with living in mind and far more than a functional room. It creates structure without feeling strict. It supports everyday life without pushing itself into the foreground. And it offers space for precisely those small moments that make a home special.
